The Missing Room

By Juan Benavides

A room has left a house, choosing to exist without walls or ceiling. A place where nature itself becomes the main inhabitant and the visitor is reduced to its mere guest. This ‘missing room’ is designed to encourage new rituals and patterns of use, offering an opportunity to enter an alternative time zone and experience a passage between a human-controlled environment and an untamed, natural one. Over the course of a single day, the short film by Juan Benavides, featuring architecture by Carroccera Collective, unveils the ‘missing room’s’ enigmatic character as it activates itself through its doors, handles, sounds, reflections, and moving elements, in an intricate play with its surroundings. Borrowing ideas from magical realism, the film highlights in various soniric and visual ways this strange to believe yet highly detailed and realistic structure hidden within the forest.

Carroccera is a new movement of artists, architects and scientists that forge new ideas for living. Every year we seek residents and collaborators to envision a plan for the development of the Carroccera property, exploring the imposed boundaries between the human and the natural; to work toward a forgotten synergy.
