Rimowa Lehni

Aluminium amplified

RIMOWA and Lehni share one material and over two centuries of combined experience working with it. RIMOWA has shaped aluminium into luggage since the 1920s, engineering objects built to move. Lehni has bent and assembled it into furniture since 1922, producing objects built to stay. Their first collaboration, RIMOWA Lehni, places both logics inside the same piece.

The collection comprises two designs: the RIMOWA Lehni Bench and the RIMOWA Lehni Drawer. Both are handmade at Lehni’s factory in Dübendorf, crafted in anodized aluminium in black or silver, and dimensioned to store RIMOWA Cabin-sized suitcases. The Bench presents up to two Cabins side by side in an open-shelving format. The Drawer stacks them vertically within a sculptural frame, with a closed compartment for smaller objects. Each shelf is lined with a scratch-resistant felt matt developed specifically for this collaboration.

It is the first time Lehni has modified its legendary modular aluminium system for an external partner. The result is a co-design that holds the precision of Swiss furniture manufacturing and the functional clarity RIMOWA has refined over 127 years.

“Together with Lehni we crafted made-to-measure pieces that perfectly marry our Swiss and German design backgrounds while celebrating our shared dedication to aluminium craftsmanship," says Mathieu Plenier, Chief Marketing Officer of RIMOWA. “This collaboration transforms the way our suitcases live at home, creating innovative storage solutions that are both purposeful and beautifully engineered”

Benedetta Agostini and Antonio Monaci, owners and directors of Lehni, describe the project as “technology and beauty applied to aluminium. The collaboration between RIMOWA and Lehni has resulted in a design product made entirely in Switzerland to the highest aesthetic and quality standards, characteristics that set both brands apart in the market.”

The collection launches April 21 during Milan Design Week. A dedicated RIMOWA Lehni Visitor Center on Via Achille Maiocchi 10 will host the pieces from April 21 to 24, alongside a curated book selection by Swiss publisher INNEN PUBLISHING and a postcard mailing station for handwritten notes from Milan. The limited-edition pieces will also debut at RIMOWA’s newly renovated Milan flagship, with a window installation by studioutte.
