Barão-Hutter

Alte Reithalle

Barão-Hutter is a Swiss-Portuguese architectural practice known for its poetic approach to architecture, urban planning, and landscape design. With a commitment to craft and collaboration, the studio engages deeply with specialists and artisans, resulting in spaces that balance technical precision with poetic resonance. Founders Ivo Mendes Barão Teixeira and Peter Hutter bring diverse influences to their work, shaped by their education at institutions such as ETH Zurich, the University of Porto, and the Accademia d’Architettura Mendrisio, as well as their experiences in internationally recognized practices like Peter Zumthor's studio.

Alte Reithalle, film commissioned by Barão-Hutter’s office, presents the transformation of the Alte Reithalle in Aarau, Switzerland, into a multifunctional concert, dance, and theater venue. The project, which earned the studio first prize in an open competition, spans more than a decade of work (2012–2024). It showcases their ability to adapt historic structures for contemporary use while maintaining an emphasis on spatial quality, acoustic performance, and operational versatility. Through its precise interventions, the project underscores Barão-Hutter's commitment to enriching cultural spaces within the urban fabric.
